Nail Art: Celebrating 150th of Jose Rizal

Today is June 19 in the Philippines and we are celebrating 2 occasions. First, it is Father's Day. To my Tatay (English: father), "Happy, Happy Father's Day!" Second, we are commemorating the 150th birthday of our national hero, Jose Rizal. I created a Jose Rizal nail art design as a way of participating in the celebration and as an expression of my appreciation to all that he had done and sacrificed for our country.

The inspiration for this nail art was taken from the advertising poster (inset in 1st photo) used to promote Jose Rizal's 150th celebration. I have one accent nail on my left hand and my right hand represents the Philippine flag.

Nail Art: Proud of the Philippines

First of all, I'd like to greet everyone a happy Chinese New Year! I know I said that I'd be posting another CNY nail art but I got busy with work and I'm letting my nails grow and rest a little. I'll be making Valentine's nail designs very very soon. :)

For the meantime, let me share with you this nail art design that I submitted as an entry to Parokeets' Nail Art Challenge: Show Off Your Country. I've been meaning to do something like this and the challenge was the perfect opportunity to do a nail design that is inspired by my country, the Philippines.

Here's the nail design that I submitted:

New Year Nail Art (2011)

Hi, everyone! Before anything else, I'd like to say Happy New Year! to all of you! I'm starting the year with a colorful new year nail art. I'm still wearing my nails short due to terrible breakage. Hopefully, it will grow back (soon) to the length I'm comfortable with.

It's 2011 and I'd like to begin the new year with something happy to look at. But first, a little teaser on how I came up with this design.

New Year Nail Art 01
Last Christmas, Thea (a friend) gave me a portable bag for a present. I immediately loved the design because the pattern is made up of colorful butterflies! Yes, I adore butterflies.

You may ask how this bag is portable. Well, in the next photos, I'll be showing you how it folds to approximately the size of a hand. Since I received this lovely gift, it has been in my bag constantly. It's really handy and helps me promote environmental friendliness!

I can't find exactly what the materials were used for the compact tote bag but it feels like a very thin version of the material used for outdoor tents. It's really sturdy and water repellent too!

Anyway, I was trying to come up with a new year nail art design that will have lively colors and what better inspiration than this bag! Thanks Thea for this extremely useful gift!

Here are photos of the bag in its compact state:

Christmas Nail Art: Wreaths

Today's Christmas nail art is religiously inspired. I still wanted to create a Christmas nail design that would showcase the popular colors of the holidays -- red, green, and gold. I also wanted something consistent on all nails. And so, no accent nails for this particular Christmas nail art. Since we put up decorations during the holidays, I decided to decorate my nails with Christmas wreaths!

I used Lucidarling White as base color. You may choose to use other shades of white polish for your base. But I do like this particular shade because of its shimmer that adds something extra that's apt for the season. :)

Nail Art: Tweety Bird

I attended the Visayas Blogging Summit 2010 last weekend with friends at Iloilo City, Philippines. I couldn't go without a nail art, right? I was having a hard time deciding on the design but I definitely wanted something cute. I ended up doing a Tweety nail art design!

I have 3 accent nails, all Tweety but with different facial expressions. Forgive me I was not able to take a photo with just the base colors. I did this nail art in a friend's house and I completely forgot my routine. :)

Base colors are Orly Charged Up and OPI Do You Lilac It for the accent nails. Both in 2 coatings. Easy application and opaque in 2 layers.

Nail Art: Snoopy

My Nanay said I started drawing as soon as I knew how to hold a pencil, well actually, a crayola. Our walls was my canvas. Haha! I remember I used to draw cartoon characters that I see on our daily newspaper. Snoopy was the first cartoon character that I memorized to draw. And so today, in memory of my childhood, I made a Snoopy nail art!

I have three (3) accent nails for this design -- Snoopy, Charlie Brown, and Woodstock. I chose the 3 primary colors for my Snoopy nails because I wanted lively colors to bring out the kid in me.

Nail Art: Christmas Gift Boxes

I know it's not yet December, but I submitted this nail art design to a nail art contest that asked participants to paint our nails that depicts our favorite part of the holidays. I'd like to share this with you. I chose Christmas and since I belong to a non-traditional family, I find that gift wrapping is one of the ways I can express my creativity (aside from nail art) during this joyous season. Yes, we really don't decorate. :)

And so I came up with this nail art design:

Christmas gift boxes nail art!

I just realized that I'm into a multi-colored nail art phase! My previous Caronia Butterfly Nail Art also had a different shade of nail polish per nail! Hmm, I think my mood is trying to cheer me up through my current nail designs. I wanted to create something simple but lively that's why I opted to paint each nail a different color. The colored the bow the same shade on all nails to have something constant. I felt having different colors for the bow will make the design confusing.

Nail Art: Halloween Frankenstein

My Halloween project to create spooky nail art for the whole month of October will not be complete without painting Frankenstein on my nails! This is the 5th installment for my project. I've been doodling on how it will look and finally, I've decided on a simple design.

Here's my version of a Frankenstein Halloween nail art:

Nail Art Halloween Frankenstein 04
Frankenstein and the chains that bound him on the table.

I remember watching the 1994 movie Frankenstein that starred Robert de Niro as Frankenstein. The movie was based on a novel by Mary Shelley. The story of Frankenstein is about a man named Victor Frankenstein who tried to play god by using science to create life. He was successful in his experiment and his creation eventually was named after him.

Nail Art: Mothers Are Precious Like Gold

Nanay (a Filipino term for mother) asked me to polish her nails last night and surprisingly requested a nail art! I guess being a nail art enthusiast can be contagious ... in a way. I got excited so I immediately went to check my stash for possible colors that she might like. She wanted something nude, or a shade that isn't too loud. I, on the other hand, wanted to give her a glittery golden polish. I won! I must say that it really looked good on her.

Here's the result:

Nail Art: Halloween Jack

This is another halloween nail art! It's the second addition to my mini project to create halloween themed nail designs for the whole month of October. I was still in the mood to wear dark polishes so I decided to create a halloween nail art using just the colors black and white.

This is what I came up with:

Nail Art Halloween Skull 04
Since my ring finger is my favorite, that's what I always use whenever I just want do nail art on one nail.

Nail Art: Halloween Spiders

It's October! And as promised, I'll be posting two nail arts with a halloween theme every week for the whole month of October. Hopefully, I won't ran out of ideas. I'd like to share my first halloween nail art today, the 1st of October.

I think one spider is enough. I don't like my hands to look so scary.

Here are the base colors:

Nail Art: Nailed by Bees

I did this nail art design this week. I've been wanting to do a bee inspired design but I had a hard time finding a yellow polish that I really like. After searching and trying to come up with a simple design, this is what I came up with:

Nail Art Nailed by Bees 03
This is a layer of base coat, 3 layers of L.A. Colors NP413 (golden yellow), Elianto Twilight Zone for the bee stripes, and Revlon white on white for the eyes.

I first used a basic yellow color but I preferred this golden shade. Here are all the polishes that I used:

Nail Art: Midnight Sun

I know that the name of today's nail art is weird. Well, in my part of the world it is weird because there's no sun during midnight. But I recently acquired fauxnad plates from Bundle Monster and I immediately got fascinated with this particular sun design. I figured it would look good with dark blue.

Nail Art Midnight Sun 01
This is 1 layer of base coat and 2 coats of Elianto Indigo Shine.

I chose a blue nail polish with shimmer to create a night effect. I liked the way it turned out. The yellow sun stood out well.

Nail Art: Abstract

As much as I wanted to keep my nails longer, I was having a difficult time drawing. Holding pens with long nails for a long period of time gets uncomfortable. So I decided to cut them to my usual length.

Although I can paint my own nails, I still find time to have them clean by a professional whenever I can. Sadly, my favorite nail salon -- Cocomo Nails Spa -- will be closing today. I've been with them for more than 5 years and truly, this is very sad news. It's hard looking for a nail salon that can give me the service satisfaction I get on my every visit to Cocomo Nails Spa. I will truly miss my favorite nail technicians and those very accommodating staff. The thing is, they already know my personal preferences when it comes to my nails. The shape, the color of my polishes, my problematic nails, etc. Now, I have to scout for a new nail salon.

I've had my share of bad experiences from various nail salons. And I'm scared that I'll be encountering some again on my search for new one. Wish me luck!

Nail Art: Elianto's Night Glitters

Yes! It was nail salon day again for me and Nanay! I kept my nails a bit long for this week because I wanted to try the Konad Stamping Nail Art again.

elianto night glitters
This week, I decided to go with Elianto's Night Glitters. It's actually a dark shade of green with glitters. With light, you can see the greenish color. However, it looks black under the shade. I'm not fond of the color green, but I like this shade. To achieve this look, apply 1 layer of base coat, 2 layers of Elianto's Night Glitters, and 1 layer of top coat.
