Nail Art: Spiderman

June has been a very emotional month and I'm glad it's ending. But one good thing I can look forward to before I say goodbye to June is to watch the latest Spiderman movie. Yes, I am a fan. Having said that, I could not watch without a matching nail art design. So I got busy a couple of nights ago and came up with this:

Nail Art: Manny Pacquaio ... Again

Clearly, this is not another Christmas nail art idea. Please forgive me that I am now breaking my promise of sharing a series of nail designs inspired by the yuletide season that started with my Christmas Garlands nail art a few days ago. I have a good reason for this, promise!

This nail art is a tribute to Filipino pound-for-pound boxer, Manny "Pacman" Pacquaio, who successfully defended his welterweight title against challenger, Juan Manuel Marquez last November 13 at MGM in Las Vegas. Once again, you gave pride to your fellow Filipinos. We are truly proud of you. And since nail painting is what I love to do, I hope this Manny Pacquaio inspired nail design is enough to show my appreciation to your dedication and hard work.

Base colors are Sally Hansen Black Out for black and OPI Alpine White for accent nails, polished in 2 coats. All designs were hand painted using acrylic paints and nail art brushes.

I made 4 accent nails, 2 on each hand.

I painted Manny Pacquaio's face and his name logo on my left hand. I was tempted to replicate how I painted his portrait on my first Manny nail design, but decided to come up with something different since he doesn't wear a full moustache anymore. I know in my heart that I could have done a better job with this but honestly, my hands were shaking when I was doing this. I'll get to that later. ;)

On my right hand, I chose to paint boxing gloves to represent the sport of boxing. Like I always do, I try to place a simpler design on my right hand as I'll be working with my weaker hand. The gloves, I think, is a good choice.

I wanted to paint the Philippine flag in one of my nails but we were running out of time. I'll explain this in awhile. ;) I didn't want to leave the other nails bare so I figured I'd paint some stripes using the colors of our flag. It was a good compromise and I liked it.

Okay, so why was my hand shaking and why didn't I have time to paint our country's flag? You see, a few days ago, I gladly obliged to a request by a local television network to feature my Manny Pacquaio nail art. Yesterday was the day of the shooting and I was really nervous that my hand kept shaking. They also wanted to cover a lot of nail art ideas that I didn't have enough time to do the flag.

Here's a glimpse of the shoot:

I was particularly excited for this feature because I did the design on my own nails! I know I don't have exactly the prettiest hands, but this opportunity is a dream come true for me. I have long wanted to record on video how I paint my nails. But nail artists would agree that we can't just place our hand flat on the table all the time, so mounting a video camera on a tripod simply wouldn't work all the time. But having a cameraman scrutinizing me while I work made me really conscious that I made some erasures on the design during the shoot. In fact, I was more nervous working on my nails compared to the short interview. Nevertheless, the experience was awesome!

The feature will be aired this Sunday, November 20 at GMA News TV, Channel 11 at 8:00pm. Other Manny Pacquaio inspired creations by other Filipinos will also be featured. If you have time, I hope you can watch the news segment and perhaps you can get a glimpse of how I paint my nails!

To my international friends, I will be posting a video of the segment once it has been uploaded by the television network.

To everyone, thank you for appreciating my nail designs. It is because of you that opportunities like this knocks on my door.

Nail Art: Harry Potter, the Finale

I'm quite sure that almost everyone is excited for July 14, 2011. The finale to the Harry Potter movie series will hit the cinemas and I am one of those people that is anticipating the movie. As of last weekend, theaters all over the metro are already selling tickets for the showing of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2. I, on the other hand, attempted to create another Harry Potter nail art design.

My first Harry Potter nail art only had Harry as an accent nail. On my second Harry Potter nail art design, I hand painted characters from the movie. It tested my patience actually but I can still remember how I had fun doing that nail art.

This is my third attempt for a Harry Potter inspired freehand nail design. Let me know what you think. I painted bigger faces.

Nail Art: Celebrating 150th of Jose Rizal

Today is June 19 in the Philippines and we are celebrating 2 occasions. First, it is Father's Day. To my Tatay (English: father), "Happy, Happy Father's Day!" Second, we are commemorating the 150th birthday of our national hero, Jose Rizal. I created a Jose Rizal nail art design as a way of participating in the celebration and as an expression of my appreciation to all that he had done and sacrificed for our country.

The inspiration for this nail art was taken from the advertising poster (inset in 1st photo) used to promote Jose Rizal's 150th celebration. I have one accent nail on my left hand and my right hand represents the Philippine flag.

Nail Art: Pirates of the Caribbean

I have always believed that Johnny Depp is a very talented and versatile Hollywood actor. He has proven so in most of his movies wherein he portrayed unique characters. To name a few of his movie portrayals that I admire are Edward in Edward Scissorhands, Charlie in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Mad Hatter in Alice and Wonderland, and Captain Jack Sparrow in the movie series Pirates of the Caribbean.

The 4th installment of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is now showing (May 20, 2011) here in the Philippines and in most countries. I haven't missed any of the movie series and I will definitely not miss the latest. This latest nail art design was inspired by the movie, particularly by Johnny Depp's character -- Captain Jack Sparrow. I was personally challenged by this one as I was a little afraid that my drawing of the character might not look like Jack Sparrow!

I used 2 coats of Orly Goth as base color except for my accents wherein I chose Essie Marshmallow. I painted everything else using acrylic paint and sealed my design using Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat. I made 2 accent nails (again). I painted Captain Jack Sparrow on my left hand and the skull logo on my right.

Nail Art: Manny Pacquiao

The Philippines is rejoicing with the recent win of Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, pound-for-pound best boxer in the world, over pound-for-pound legend, Shane "Sugar" Mosley on May 08, 2011 in Las Vegas. His victory has made the Filipinos proud once again.

I am not really a fan of any sport. In all honestly, I haven't watched any of Pacquiao's fights in full. The only time I do watch is when I find myself with a family member that is watching the boxing match. But I am a fan of the boxer that brought so much honor to the Philippines. I painted my nails in your likeness to join my countrymen in celebrating your latest feat.

I am proud to share with you my Manny Pacquiao inspired nail art design.

I have 2 accent nails. I painted the face of Manny on my left hand and a representation of the Philippine flag on my right. I left the other nails plain. I think the Pacman deserves the limelight on my nails right now.

Manny's real name is Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao. He's the first boxer to win 10 world titles and the first to win in 8 weight boxing divisions. He was tagged "Fighter of the Decade" on 2000.

Nail Art: Elvis Rocked My Nails

It has been too long (well, it has been more than a week) since I've shared with you a nail art post. I've been busy lately with my first nail art contest. As of this post, voting is in progress to determine five (5) nail art entries that will be included in the finals. If you haven't voted, please visit It's Time To Vote! (Color It Red) and complete the voting form.

Last week, I've chanced upon a nail art contest at The Lacquerista with a "Rock n Roll" theme. It took me a few days to decide on what I'll do. Thanks to my lovely sister for her idea.

Here's what I came up with:
