Nail Art: Rainbow After the Rain

It's officially rainy season in my part of the world and although it has been causing flood and terrible traffic problems, one thing I look forward to is the possibility of seeing a rainbow after every rain shower. I seriously need some rainbow into my rainy life as well. Unfortunately, this colorful arc seems elusive, to me at least. So I decided to create one on my nails for that much needed cheer.

I believe I have done a few rainbow inspired nail art over the years and this is probably one inspiration that I will not get tired off. This freehand nail design is easy to do and looks quite attractive on the nails.

Tadah!

Nail Art: Heart Candies

Happy Valentine's Day!

Having said that to set the mood, let me put it down a little (at least for me) because I broke a nail a few days ago and it's really bad. And today, the days of hearts, my special someone is away and I have been feeling under the weather for days now. But ... I have 3 very sweet cats who haven't been leaving my sick side. The universe really has a way of balancing itself.

Anyway, will not let the day pass without sharing a Valentine's Day nail art. This one is very similar to the Accidental Love. I just painted the hearts a little different.

Nail Art: Spot the Christmas Tree

It's Christmas Day in less than 24 hours in my part of the world and although I'm feeling under the weather for quite awhile, I can't resist not having to share at least one more Christmas nail art design. Since the previous one was red themed, I figured I should do something green for a traditional color match.

The concept was rather simple -- different sizes and green shades of polka dots. But I decided to add a twist. The title is a giveaway. Take a look at the results:

Nail Art: Pretty Poppies

This floral nail art has been in my wishlist for a long time and I'm glad that I finally got around to doing it. I have seen several nail art enthusiasts create this design bringing in their own personal styles to it and I would like to be part of that roster. I find this such a dainty floral design.

This is my version of a poppies inspired nail art:

Nail Art: Peter Pan (A Tribute to Robin Williams)

I am a fan of actor Robin Williams. I love a lot of his films. I join the millions of people who are saddened by his death last August 11, 2014. As a way of remembering him for all the great movies he has done and the life he lived, I did a simple Peter Pan nail art in his honor.

I decided to use his character in his 1991 movie, Hook. He played an adult Peter Pan in the fantasy film. It's one of my favorite movies of his, including Bicentennial Man, Dead Poets Society, Aladdin, What Dreams May Come, and Patch Adams. He truly is a remarkable actor and he will be greatly missed.

Here's the nail art:

Nail Art: A Leaf Per Nail

Do you have a nail art bucket list? I do! One of which is to paint leaves. I know, it may sound simple. But somehow, I never got around it until a few days back. And I did so by accident because initially, all I wanted was to paint using a gray and apple green combo. The idea was just to use circles and just work with those colors. But as I started painting with the green color, my brush slipped. I was about to erase it when the thought of painting leaves suddenly popped. Why not?!

So ladies and gents, behold my "A Leaf Per Nail" design:

Nail Art: Pink Waves

I went to the beach last week. It is officially summer here in the Philippines and an opportunity knocked to explore a beautiful island called Calaguas. I just came from another trip a few days before heading to Calaguas. The only time I had to do my nails was the night before we left Manila. Talk about pressure! All I could come up with is that I want to paint my nails pink!

Say what? Pink? Yes, for a girl who rarely wears pink, I wanted hot pink nails for the trip to the beach! I also didn't have much time for nail art so I recreated my I Can't Draw a Straight Line nail art. It turned out like this:

Nail Art Tutorial: Red Tribal

It's post Valentine's Day here in my part of the world and I celebrated the day of hearts with an unconventional Valentine's nail art. Unconventional because it doesn't have hearts or roses or any symbol that obviously tells you it's for Valentine's. But I did use the color red just to make it fit for the occasion. I called this one -- Red Tribal. The name is a giveaway on what this nail art looks like. So without further ado ...

Nail Art: Polka Hearts

Are your nails ready for Valentine's? Perhaps this nail art design will give you an idea.

I have been receiving a lot of comments lately on my channels because of a recent copyright issue. Two words from those comments became my inspiration for this Valentine's nail art -- basic and common. So I played with basic shapes of hearts and circles to come up with a common nail design ... Polka Hearts!

Nail Art: Radiant Orchid (Color of the Year 2014)

I was about to take a 10-day out-of-town adventure and I wanted to wear a nail design that is inspired by the color of year for 2014 -- Radiant Orchid. Pantone, the world authority on color, describes it as:

“An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”

I only had the night before my flight to paint my nails. I knew I needed something simple to do. So I browsed through my previous nail art designs to get some inspiration. When I came across my blue ombre nail art I did last 2012, I thought I'd reinterpret it.

Take a look on how it turned out:

A Nail Polish by Simply Rins and Dazzle Dry

My bucket list as a nail artist/blogger includes having a nail polish named after my blog -- Simply Rins. It didn't exactly happen but I came really close! Dazzle Dry collaborated with esteemed nail bloggers around the world to come up with the collection for Winter 2013 ... and it was an honor to have been included in the roster !

There are five (5) amazing nail bloggers that were tapped for this project. Each of us were initially asked a basic color to work with. From there, Dazzle Dry closely worked with us to come up with our respective shades. Distance and time differences made this collaboration challenging. But persistence and patience from both ends became a worthwhile experience.

And now, after months of preparation, Dazzle Dry proudly presents the
Bloggers Mystery Collection (Winter) 2013!

Let me first introduce you to my very own (OMG!) nail polish color:

Nail Art: Mummy Remake

2013 is a slow year for Simply Rins. I usually allot the entire month of October to share Halloween inspired nail art designs. But this year came differently. But I can't let 2013 slip by without at least a Halloween nail art so ladies, here it is!

I have done a mummy nail art and decided to do a remake for a week long adventure I had with friends. Island hopping was in the itinerary and I initially wanted a beach inspired nails but since it is Halloween season, might as well wear Mummy nails!

Mummy Remake Nail Art Design

I did this freehand nail design the night before our flight and I wasn't able to take photos as how I normally do. The pictures here were all taken during our vacation.

Mummy Remake Nail Art Design

Base color is one coat of Dazzle Dry Midnight Express. I think a rich brown color for background would also work for this nail art. I used a detailing nail art brush and acrylic paints for the design.

I mixed white and tan for the color of the bandages. To get that antique look, I watered down white paint and brushed a few strokes on the bandages. This extra detail actually makes a difference.

Mummy Remake Nail Art Design

I would have made a mummy on all my nails if I had more time. But wearing 2 mummies, 1 on each hand was enough to accompany me on my vacation.

Did you notice the teeth on my mummies? Well, it's one of the things I did differently for this remake aside from how I painted the bandages. It would have been easier to use a flesh base color and just paint black lines to create the effect of bandages. So why did I paint this differently? Well, I wanted some texture so I really packed up on the acrylic paint. Even if you'll use a self-leveling top coat, the texture will still be there. ;)

Mummy Remake Nail Art Design

One good thing about this design is that chip offs from wear is welcoming and makes the mummy and the bandages look more authentic. I've been wearing this nail art for more than a week now and it still look good aside from the visible growth near the cuticle area.

I didn't get to experience Trick or Trick this year but my mummies were able to go island hopping, enjoyed 2 waterfalls, and met new friends!

How about you? How did you wear your nails for Halloween?

Nail Art: Crazy Lines

I'll be on a mini break by the time this post gets published. I will be joining a few fellow bloggers for the Peñafrancia Festival 2013 in Naga City, Camarines Sur this weekend and naturally, I'd like my nails to match the occasion. I wanted 2 things -- a colorful nail art design and that it should be easy to do because I was pressed for time. Yes, I only had time to do my nails the night before my flight. Talk about cramming!!

Here is the outcome after an hour of DIY nail art session:

Dazzle Dry Glam Nuvo Collection (Fall 2013)

Dazzle Dry just launched its Glam Nuvo Collection for Fall 2013. It includes 4 new shades and it promises this:
"Over-the-top-GLAM fused with timeless elegance, opulence and romantic abandon. Sparkle, shine, glitz, boast, boogie, and LIVE LARGE like you mean it." -- Dazzle Dry

As much as I enjoy swatching new polishes, I know most of you will agree that the excitement is greatly influenced by the colors themselves. I am not particularly fond of this collection except for probably one color. But hey, perhaps you'd be happy with what they released for this season. So let's start the ball rolling.

Nail Art: Round and Round

Hello!

Perhaps this post will come as a surprise to most of you because I took a leave for more than a month! I have no intention of abandoning this blog. Oh no! I love nail art too much to do that. But the truth is, I fell in love. And if you know me personally, you'd understand why I had to take a little time out from blogging. It was unexpected, confusing, and absolutely complicated. Well, we better leave it at that for the time being. For now, let me share with you a freehand nail art I simply called Round and Round because that's exactly how my present life is.

Nail Art: Fourth of July

The Independence Day of the Philippines falls on a different date. But I hope my international friends from the U.S.A. will not mind if I celebrate theirs with this 4th of July inspired nail art design.

I wanted to come up with something simple yet will shout the colors of the American flag -- red, white, and blue. It has been quite a long time since I did manicures wherein I used different colors as base colors. After doing this, I was suddenly reminded how fun it is to look at

Nail Art: Monster University

It has been quite awhile since I did some cartoon nail art design. But since Monsters University is now showing in the theaters, I thought it was a good excuse for me to do some cartooning on my nails.

Let me tell you this early that I am not so proud of how this mani turned out as a whole. But I love how my version of Mike Wazowski turned out. I think I might have painted James P. Sullivan like a pig of sort? Regardless of the results, I chose not to watch the movie without appropriate nail art!

Please be kind to this:

Nail Art: I Can't Draw a Straight Line

I received an email last week asking me for some personal tips on how to paint straight lines using a stripping nail art brush. Most nail artists would probably say that it is best practice to move your nails instead of the brush when painting lines. I agree. I was composing my reply with this suggestion until I realized that perhaps it is better to tell her to use shortcomings to create beautiful nail art. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. We cannot let the latter bring us down, right?

And so here I am sharing with you a hand-painted nail art wherein straight lines were not welcomed. I fondly titled this -- I Can't Draw a Straight Line.

Dazzle Dry Faerie Fantasy (Summer) Collection 2013

Dazzle Dry is at it again with the launch of its Faerie Fantasy (Summer) Collection 2013! The set includes 3 cremes and 3 glitter polishes. You all know that I am not really a fan of glitters but I do have them on my polish stash for mood swings. The truth is, I was anticipating this collection because of the cremes. So let me show those first before we play with those glitters. ;)
