Deborah Lippmann's 80s Rewind Collection (Summer 2014)

It is no secret that I am a fan of Deborah Lippmann's nail lacquers. Its signature polish bottle is one of the most recognizable in the market. It is also one of the most sturdiest bottles out there and they can easily be stored in a polish rack without taking up too much space. Most importantly, the brush is short and slender which I realize is more manageable during application especially if you like polishing your own nails.

This summer, the company has come up with a vibrant collection, the 80s Rewind Collection. It's composed of 6 vivid cremes inspired by songs during the 80s. Now this is a collection a lot can relate to and would definitely enjoy. If you collect memorabilias from the 80s, you'd probably get this set on a whim! It's a good addition.

Here's a quick look at the collection:




I am as excited to share with you the swatches as much as I was excited when these babies arrived in the mail! I did the following swatches with a layer of top coat for extra shine. I am a creature of habit.

Let's start with my favorite color:

Below is Don't Stop Believin' in 2 coats. Named after the song by Journey, this was described as a "righteous red-orange" and it is! I think this is the most attractive shade in the collection. But of course, my bias to the color red should be considered. This polish has excellent consistency and will not give application problems. It also didn't stain as much as I expected from a red nail lacquer. This definitely screams sexy and confident.





Next is Maniac, a good purple creme. This might have been inspired by Hall & Oates' "She's a Maniac" song. Please correct me if I am wrong. It was the first song that came to mind. Formula is slightly thick, but application is manageable. 2 coats is enough for complete coverage. While I was swatching this, I thought it looked yummy. It is said that purple is the color for compassionate people. This shade is perfect if you need to remind yourself to be a gentle soul.





She Drives Me Crazy is shown below in 2 coats. Deborah Lippmann described this as a "tantalizing teal tease". Not so sure if this can be considered teal, but it is clearly a great green shade with hints of blue. I was immediately drawn to this color as I was applying it on my nails. It's simply beautiful. Fabulous formula and had no issues at all with application. I find it to be a sophisticated color. I seldom see people wear this color and if I do, I tend to think that she must probably have a really good taste.





Fourth in our list is Video Killed the Radio Star. This color is absolutely a stunner! I mean, look at it! It's a head-turner! "Bombdiggity blue" was written in its description. I honestly didn't know what that adjective means so I looked it up. "Bombdiggity" is defined in urban dictionary as a description of something that is better then excellent, great, good, amazing, et cetera. Okay, so it now completely makes sense!

Photo below shows this polish in 2 coats. It has a good formula and can be easily applied on the nails. The only downside for this color is that it is very pigmented that it can stain your nails. To remedy this, apply 2 coats of base coat to protect your natural nails and when you remove it, avoid getting the polish on your skin.





At this point, you may want to put on your shades. The sun is about to shine with Walking On Sunshine. Gorgeous! This needs 3 coats for complete coverage. As expected with yellow polishes, Walking on Sunshine has a slightly thick formula but application is quite manageable. Are you bold enough to wear something so vibrant? This color can brighten any given day and I am talking from experience.





Last and certainly not the least is Whip It, done here 3 coats to reach full opacity. This is another delicious color in this collection. I am still not a pink person, but I am sure that a lot of girls will enjoy Whip It on their nails. Formula is a bit sheer yet application is as easy as ABC. This was described as "perky pink punch". This color is for the friendly and the feminine.




So there you have it, the Deborah Lippmann 80s Rewind Collection. I can buy this set just for the 80s inspiration. What do you think? Any favorites among the 6?
