So here I am now, still a bit uninspired but I wanted to start the ball rolling. It is a new year after all, right? What I have for you is something simple and I called it Crossed Out. Take a look below to find out why.
Crossed Out Nail Art Design by Simply Rins
I always think that abstract designs are always a good fallback when you've ran out of nail art ideas. I decided to play with lines and patterns and this is what I came up with. It's nothing fancy but surprisingly, I liked how it turned out.
Dazzle Dry Joan's Armor
I used 2 coats of Dazzle Dry Joan's Armor as base for this nail design. I was wearing this for a day before I decided to spice it up with some nail art. Joan's Armor is a charcoal grey creme polish with excellent consistency. It could be a one coater with a generous layer but I think it is better with 2 thin coats. Application is a breeze. If you are into dark shades (like myself), you'll probably love this one. This would make a good alternative to black.
For the design, I used Liquitex Basics acrylic paints and a stripper nail art brush. I figured white would be too loud so I opted to mix white and a little amount of yellow oxide.
The result is sort of an attention grabber. Do you think so, too? It's one of those nail designs that is recognizable even from a distance. And I think it makes my nails look longer. What's great about it is how versatile it is when it comes to color combinations.
If you are curious how I did this, I started with finding the center of the nail and marking it with a dot. This made it easier to paint the "x" on each nail. I added the triangles on each corner last.
Painting the lines requires a bit of precision and so I think this would be a good practice for nail art beginners who would like to practice drawing lines.
Sometimes, I get pressured to paint my nails with more intricate nail designs because I feel people expect me to. But I think it is always good to remind oneself that nail art is something personal. We paint our nails to please ourselves and not others.
I hope you'll like my first nail art for 2013. More to come! :)

ReplyDeleteThanks, ladies!
ReplyDeleteI suddenly had the idea of naming this x-nails! ;)
I really like them! I don't think they are un-inspired! I have a real weakness for anything black & white/high contrast geometric, so it's an automatic win! I've been MIA for like...9 months from my nail blog, and am just popping back up. Glad to see you are still doing this, because you are super awesome at it!
