I wanted to use a particular polish as background and I knew right away that it would look great for a vintage effect. So I figured minimal shapes or silhouettes that pertained to Christmas would be the best complement to achieve the effect that I wanted. But alas, after so many tries, the design looked so mixed up that I decided to take an alternative route.
I was stubborn to give up the vintage look. But instead of painting a lot of different Christmas shapes, I decided to just use 2 -- a Christmas tree and ornaments.
I came up with this:
The idea is to use bold lines to create the design to make it pop from the background. I think it gives that embossed effect.
I used 2 coats of Dazzle Dry Secret Rendezvous as base. (Review can be read here.) It's because of this polish that I got inspired to create a vintage Christmas nail design.
For the design, I used a combination of Titanium White and Yellow Oxide acrylic paints from Liquitex Basics. You may want to read my article on nail art tools here. An off white color for the design was a better choice, me thinks. I thought pure white would have been too loud.
When this nail design idea was still on my head, I thought it would be easy. I mean, it's just lines! But it was different when I was painting it already. Well, I think it showed in my results. My Christmas balls were far from being a perfect circle. It was hard to perfect the shape as I painted away. It was because of this I was hesitant to share this design here. But I did so anyway. Perhaps you'll have a better way of doing this and I would love to hear your idea/s. :)
I leave the verdict to you if I was able to achieve that vintage look for a Christmas nail design. All I can say is that this has been a learning experience for me. Being stubborn sometimes has its advantages. It drove me to come up with other ideas to achieve what I wanted.
