Lo and behold, my take on tribal nail art:

I decided to create 10 different tribal patterns, one for each fingernail. :)
Since I wanted to make this really colorful, I chose to wear black as my base color. This is 2 coatings of Sally Hansen Black Out. This lacquer remains to be my favorite black. Application is not so easy since the consistency easily gets thick. However, I really like the shiny finish that I am willing to overlook the application problem. This is actually my second bottle.
I hand painted all the patterns using acrylic paints, a detailing and a striping nail art brush.
To make things a little easier, I first doodled the design on paper. I normally do this before painting on my nails so that I'll have an idea how it would look like.

I really didn't paint all the designs as I drew them, I altered a few patterns. There are moments when I just let the nail art brush do its own thing and work with that. The doodles were really helpful, especially in terms of cutting the time of painting the nail design shorter.
One of the good things about painting this tribal nail design is that it is very flexible as regards to creating the patterns. It was a good challenge to come up with 10 unique patterns.
After painting this particular nail art, I had an idea how to recreate this differently but still colorful. Instead of painting black as a background color, I could paint each nail with a different polish and paint the patterns with black. I've already added this to my list of nail art ideas to try.
If you decide to create your own tribal nails using a black base, remember to mix lighter shades of acrylic paints or use bright polishes for your tribal patterns to make sure it will pop on top of the dark background.
I think this design would look good for either short or long nails. For shorter nails, I recommend creating patterns that are vertically oriented. This would make your nails look longer.
You probably noticed that I avoided painting curve lines in this tribal nail art. Painting curves are harder and I know that it would take longer for me to finish and I didn't have the luxury of time the other night. But I must say that painting this nail design was exciting. It was like a page turner. I was excited to finish one nail to proceed to the next.
As I was writing this post, I wanted to mention my favorite pattern but I like them all and I don't want to play favorites on my babies.
