First, I searched for a base coat that can reinforce my nails and make them stronger. Orly Calcium Shield worked for me among the various brands of base coats that I tried. Second, I decided to purchase a non-acetone nail polish remover. I found one in a local department store -- Delon.
Delon Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover
I change my nail polish 2 to 3 times weekly and I figured it's important to invest in a good base coat and a healthier nail polish remover. I do, however, still have an acetone based polish remover in my stash for clean-up and for removing glittered nail lacquers that are harder to remove.
The most important advantage of non-acetone nail polish removers is the fact that it will NOT dry your nails nor your cuticles. Acetone will. It is a healthier choice. Based on research, people say that non-acetone polish removers are less effective in removing nail lacquers. I didn't find any problem with the Delon, except on removing glittered polishes that we all know are really more difficult to remove. I use an acetone based nail polish remover for this.
I wish there were more non-acetone polish removers available here in the Philippines. But this is the only one I found. The Delon Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover retails at Php195 (approximately $4.50) for a 295ml bottle. It is currently distributed by Rustan's Department Store. Delon acetone based polish removers are also available in various scents.
One thing I dislike about Delon Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover is its plastic-balloon-like smell. Do make sure your room is well-ventilated whenever you do your nails.
Choosing a nail polish remover is a personal preference and it is essential to know your options.

ReplyDeleteI used to wear sculptured nails, and like you when I decide to remove them (two years ago), my nails were severely injured. So I decided to use a vitamined base coat and I moved to a non-acetone nail polish remover. I'm very happy because it works very well, even removing glittered nail lacquers.
I bought it in a local supermarket. I'm so glad I changed because I have even noticed that since I use it my nails are less yellow.
Hi, Istarh! I think the main reason why there's non-acetone nail polish removers is for those that wear sculptured nails. But it is also recommended for natural nails. If I didn't experience that horrible experience with acrylic nails. What particular brand of non-acetone polish remover are you using?

ReplyDeleteThe nail polish remover is the supermarket's own brand, is a generic brand (I'm not sure if this is how it's said in English). The manufacturer is SPB, a Spanish company, so I don't think you can get to buy this brand there :(

ReplyDeleteHi there. I recently bought Take it Off Non-Acetone Polish Remover at PCX Power Plant Mall. It removes nail polish just fine but it does something evil to cotton fibers. After I remove polish from one nail, the cotton ball becomes quite abrasive and sort of shaves tiny little bits of nail off the surface. I didn't experience this with Delon.

Hi! :) I bought a non acetone nail polish remover at Daiso.. The shop that sells japanese and american stuffs at a very cheap prices. It sells for 66 pesos a bottle but the smell is like plastic balloon. But it did great. Also they sell nail polish remover wipes. It really looks just like a regular wet wipes just smaller in size.

ReplyDeleteDelon smells like plastic balloon too. But I'm a satisfied user. Will try the one you found at Daiso when I get a chance to buy one. As for Caronia nail polish remover, I only use it for cleaning image plates or my orange sticks. The only disadvantage I found with it is that the purple color stains the skin.
Hbc nail polish remover stains my fingertips naman. But not Caronia, siguro it varies talaga for each user kasi yung sister ko din ayaw ng Caronia. :-) I saw a new nail polish remover at hbc and I think they replaced the pink one. The new one is in gel form. I will share here my opinion about that product. Have a great day!:-)

Hi, Rina! I recently bought my nail polish remover in a store in Divisoria. Not only it is cheap (sold for Php50 per 150ml) but it did a great job removing nail polishes easily, didn't damage my nails and it has nice scent too! One of their staffs told me that they also use it for removing sticker tattoos but didn't dried their skin. :)
