I know this is a small effort on my part to spread breast cancer awareness and I'm hoping that through my personal blog, I'll be able to help spread knowledge about this sickness.
This is the breast cancer awareness nail art I came up with:
A simple design for Breast Cancer Awareness month.
Here are the symptoms of breast cancer which we can see or feel. The earlier the cancer is detected, the larger the chance of curing it. (Source: http://breastcancer.about.com/)
* swelling or lump (mass) in the breast
* swelling in the armpit (lymph nodes)
* nipple discharge (clear or bloody)
* pain in the nipple
* inverted or retracted nipple
* scaly or pitted skin on nipple
* persistent tenderness of the breast
* unusual breast pain or discomfort
This is how the base colors looks bare:
This is 2 coats of Faceshop PP402. Application was a bit tricky because of the thick consistency of the polish. I used 2 coats of Essie Blanc for the accent nail. This is a recent purchase which I was able to buy on sale! It is quite watery but I prefer it over other white polishes I have that are thick.
Doctors suggest that women do regular check ups by themselves at least to check for symptoms. The best way, however, to detect whether or not you have breast cancer is through a procedure called mammogram. It is highly recommended for women who are 40 years old and above to undergo annual mammogram to detect early signs of breast cancer. Why? It is said that mammograms can detect the cancer even before you can feel a lump on your breast.
I shared with you a post entitled Prayers For Jinky last August 2010. Jinky is the wife of my former high school teacher and is now battling stage 4 breast cancer. Please read Jinky's Story and include her in your prayers.
I painted a pink ribbon on my ring finger using Faceshop PP402 and added white random dots of different sizes using dotting tools on all the other nails.
Remember that breast cancer can happen to anyone and earlier detection is most important to fight it. Let us have a healthy lifestyle and be aware of our body. I hope this breast cancer awareness nail art can reach a lot of women and hopefully help in this advocacy.
